THE OI POMODORO DA INDUSTRIA NORD ITALIA CONTINUES ITS PATH TOWARDS GREATER SUSTAINABILITY IN THE TOMATO DERIVATIVES SUPPLY CHAIN

The latest studies conducted to calculate the PEF-Product Environmental Footprint show further progress in reducing environmental impact in tomato cultivation and processing processes. Through a dedicated project, more eco-friendly seedbeds have also been identified.

NORTHERN ITALY'S PROCESSING TOMATO SUPPLY CHAIN RELAUNCHES THE RED CANNED TOMATO MARKET FROM A GREEN PERSPECTIVE

The North Italian processing tomato chain accounts for 25% of tomato production and processing in the European market and has long pursued high environmental standards. It is now presenting itself to the market with the “Tomato SAUCE” project to promote the sustainability of European tomatoes and raise awareness and appreciation of the high environmental standards ensured by the voluntary production specifications used in agricultural and industrial processing in Northern Italy.

NORTHERN ITALY PROCESSING TOMATO SUPPLY CHAIN PRESENTS TRUEMATO DOCUSERIES

About 2.8 million tons of tomatoes were processed in the 2023 harvest year in northern Italy, with very high quality and a brix degree of 4.87, one of the highest values in the last decade. A quality that is also the result of high attention to sustainability along the entire supply chain, recounted in the five-episode docuseries Truemato. The initiative is part of the Tomato SAUCE project, a broader program to promote the sustainability of tomato derivatives produced in northern Italy in France and Germany.
